Jonathan Griffith, 1853-1929. He is buried in plot with his wife, three
daughters and son-in-law. There is a common headstone which says GRIFFITH and
then smaller individual stones for each of the people with their names and

JONATHAN GRIFFITH, E.T. / VET, DIES OF PNEUMONIA
Jonathan Griffith, aged 76 years, a resident of the Braddock district for
more than half a century, died at 2:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon in his home,
1009 Bell Avenue, North Braddock. Mr. Griffith's death was caused by pneumonia,
although he had been in poor health for almost a year.
Mr. Griffith was born in Johnstown and came to Braddock at an early age.
The house in which he lived on Bell avenue was one of the two first built in
the Hill borough. Mr. Griffith was employed in the steel rail department of the
Egar Thomson steel works for a number of years and was retired from active
service almost a quarter of century ago. He was a member of the Braddock
Methodist Episcopal church.
Mr. Griffith was the husband of the late Mary L. Griffith. He leaves these
children: Edgar A. Griffith of Wilkinsburg; Dr. Wilbert E. Griffith of
Yatesboro, PA; Mrs. George Larimer of Swissvale. Eight grandchildren survive,
as well as these brothers and sisters: Reuben L. Griffith, Lowman E. Griffith
and William Griffith of Johnstown and Mrs. Edward Witt and Mrs. Milton Linhart
of Johnstown.
Funeral services will be held in the Griffith home at 2:30 o'clock
tomorrow afternoon, Rev. Alexander Steel will officiate. Burial, under the
direction of Undertaker W.L. Dowler of Braddock, will take place in the
Braddock cemetery. He was married to Mary Langford BARBER on 19 Jul 1879 in

Funeral services for the late Mrs. J.J. Griffith were held today from her
late home, 1009 Bell avenue, North Braddock. Services were in charge of Dr.
Thomas Charlesworth, paster of the First Methodist church of Braddock, of which
she had long been a member.
Mrs. Griffith, aged 76 tears, was a lifelong resident of North Braddock,
coming here when but a child with her parents.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Edgar A. of Wilkinsburg, Dr. W.
E. Griffith of Indiana, PA, and one daughter, Mrs. George F. Larimer of
Swissvale; one brother, Alfred S. Barber of Tranford City and six
grandchildren. Children were:

Obit (1957) reads: Dr. WILBUR [Wilbert] GRIFFITH, Yatesboro, passed away
Monday, May 27, at 9 a.m. (EDT) in the Medical College Hospital at Richmond,
Virginia. He was born July 26, 1885 at North Braddock a son of Jonathan and
Mary Langford (Barber) Griffith. Dr. Griffith was graduated in 1908 from the
Physicians and Surgeons College of Baltimore (now University of Maryland) and
practiced medicine in Armstrong and Indiana Counties for forty-eight years. He
was a member of the Kittanning Lodge No. 244, F. & A.M. and the Consistory
at
Coudersport, the Indiana County Medical Society, the American Medical
Association and the Yatesboro Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife,
the former Anna Craig, three sons, Dr. Harold C. Griffith, Rural Valley, James
C. Griffith, New Castle, and Dr. Wilbur [Wilbert] E. Griffith, Jr., of
Gainesville, Florida, one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jean Waite, Annapolis,
Maryland, one sister, Mrs. George Larimer, Swissvale, ten grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Edwards Funeral Home in Rural Valley after 6
p.m. this evening and until the hour of service, Thursday at 2:30 o'clock. His
pastor, the Rev. Charles Cochran, will officiate. Interment will be made in the
Rural Valley Cemetery.
