16. Eve GRIFFITH was born
in 1757 in Sadsbury, Lancaster, PA. She died on 11 Feb 1814 in Straban Twp.,
Adams, PA. She was buried in Old Menallen Cem, Adams, PA. SOURCE: Warrington

MARRIAGE: Eve Griffith, Jur. and Samuel Mickle complained of 2-7-1778 for
marriage by a hireling teacher: disowned 7-11-1778 (Monthly Meeting)
Samuel and Eve must have been reinstated at some point because on page 360 of
Menallen Minutes dated 10/13/1799 there is entry of certificate of removal for
them from Warrington to Menallen and also their children are listed with
various entries in the Menallen minutes.
Will of Thomas Griffith dated 28 Feb 1826 lists "to heirs of my sister Eve
Mickle dec'd."

died 2, 11, 1814. She was married to Samuel MICKLE in 1778 in , York, PA.
Samuel MICKLE was born on 26 Feb 1756 in Menallen, York, PA. He
died on 26 Mar 1819 in Straban Twp., Adams, PA. He was buried in Old Menallen
Cem, Adams, PA. NOTES on MICKLE from IMMIGRATION OF IRISH QUAKERS: Robert and
John Mickle
[brothers] had Certificate of Removal from Dublin, Ireland, dated 4 mo. 2,
1730, received at New Garden Monthly Meeting, Chester County, PA, 7 mo. 26,
1730. John Mickle, Sr., brother of Robert, married "by a priest," about
1736,
to Jane ____. They removed to Menallen Township, York County, PA about 1747.
Children: (1) SARAH, b. 10 mo. 29, 1737 m. about 1760 to John Mickle, her first
cousin, for which she was disowned. (2) ELIJAH, b. 2 mo. 8, 1740 (at Warrington
M.M., 11 mo. 18, 1758, Menallen Meeting reported that Elijah Mickle and John
Shepperd "hath both left the parts unknown to their parents"). (3)

John Mickle, Sr. as Jane Morthland who married 2nd ??? Squib.
At Warrington M.M. 4 mo. 10, 1762, John Mickle, of Menallen Meeting, it is
apprehended, has connived at his daughter's keeping company in order for
marriage with one not of our Society. 6 mo. 12, 1762, Jane Mickle charged with
the same offense. 10 mo. 9, 1762, she acknowledges that "she Carelessly
went
away from my own house until my daughter Mary took the opportunity to go away
with a man not in unity with Friends, in order to accomplish her marriage by
a
priest; I being warned to the Contrary I do now look upon my self to have been
remiss in my duty."
2 mo. 12, 1763, John Mickle reported somewhat condescending. 6 mo. 11, 1763,
he
acknowledges that "I inadvertently went abroad at the time my Daughter Mary
ran
away to be married, notwithstanding I was Cautioned to take Care of her, &
that
she was to run away that night; for which I am heartily sorry."
3 mo. 11, 1769, John Mickle, Sr., was complained of by Menallen, "for joining
with others in dancing so far as to be present & see it & imitate it
himself &
also that he has for a considerable time neglected attending our Religious
meetings," disowned 7 mo. 8, 1769.
ESTATE: WILL dated 23 November 1818; probated 10 April 1819. Straban Township.

Samuel was a taxpayer in York (now Adams) County, Tyrone Township
(Heidlersburg) in 1779-1780 and in Menallen Township (Benderville) in 1782-83.
Moved to Straban Township near Hunterstown, where he died. Samuel, Eve, and
Thomas are buried in the old Quaker Cemetery on the East side of Opossum Creek
in Butler Township, Adams County midway between Biglerville and Heidlersburg
along Rt. 234, at the site of the old Menallen Quaker Church which was about
three miles from the present site. Samuel's Will is dated November 23, 1818,
and is recorded (May 30, 1820) in the Register of Wills Office, Court House,
Gettysburg, Adams County, PA. Eve GRIFFITH and Samuel MICKLE had the following
children:

Griffith lived on a tract of land near Nelson's Mill, Cessna, St. Clair
Township, Bedford County, PA which he inherited from his father, Samuel Mickle.
This tract of 184 acres was known as "Union" and was bought by Samuel
on April
10, 1793 from Robert and Nancy Tate. Warrant from Proprietaries to Francis
Campbell on May 31, 1763. Part of the tract was sold to John Wisegarver, Sr.
of
St. Clair Township.
Griffith was an edge-tool and auger maker.
In his later years, Griffith lived with his son John in Washington, Iowa (Hood
River section), where he died.
Listed as an original member (1833) of the Schellsburg Presbyterian Church
along with Rebecca Mickel who may have been his wife.

Samuel MICKLE was born in 1789 in , York (now Adams), PA. He died on 27

Samuel Mickle (Mickel), Jr. lived between Hunterstown and Newchester on a small
farm which was a part of a larger tract owned by his father. Entire family
buried at Rock Chapel, a Methodist Church built in 1773 and located 1/2 mile
north, off Route 15 between York Springs and Heidlersburg (Adams County).

Thomas MICKLE was born in 1792 in , York, PA. He died on 4 Apr 1826 in Straban
Twp., Adams, PA. He was buried in Old Menallen Cem, Adams, PA.

Sarah MICKLE was born on 1 Aug 1803 in , Adams, PA. She died on 6 Oct 1868
in , Adams, PA. Note at Menallen says "possibly buried at Bendersville."

Robert MICKLE was born on 11 Oct 1804 in , Adams, PA. He died on 6 May
1855 in Millerstown, Bedford, PA. He was buried in Chestnut Ridge, Schellsburg,
Bedford, PA. Disowned at Menallen 5/17/1820 for joining another religion, page

Robert Mickle moved from Adams County to Bedford County about 1834. He located
on the Lucas place near the Riseling "Fulling Mill," near Spring Hope
and then
moved to the "Wine" Miller property near Helixville, then Millertown,
where he
resided at the time of his death. Robert Mickle was one of the first teachers
of the free schools in this part of the county. His widow, Jane Gorley Mickle,
then lived with various relatives and older children. While living with her
daughter, Mary, she fell on the attic stairs and injured her head so badly she
died in a few days. Both are buried in the Schellsburg Cemetery but the burial
site is unknown.
