Born on his father's farm in Somerset County, PA. The years of his early
childhood were passed on the homestead. When he was 7 years old his parents
moved to Johnstown, and it was in the common schools of that city that he
obtained his education. When a young man, he labored for a time at the Cambria
Iron Co., making ninety cents a day, by which he saved enough money to purchase
a team, with which he did general hauling. At the time of his marriage, he
purchased 15 acres of land, on which he erected a home and what is now known as
"Springhill Farm." He purchased 15 acres from his father and afterward
inherited 8 acres more. In 1880, he engaged in the dairy business, which he
was still conducting very successfully in 1907, always finding Johnstown a
ready and profitable market for his produce.

Daughter of Casper and Anne E. (Hoffman) Glitsch and granddaughter of Christian
and Elizabeth Glitsch. Christian b. 1800, Germany. Casper b. 1822 at
Landenhause, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, emigrated 1847. He was a machinist and
for 35 years was employed by the Cambria Steel Co. Reuben Lewis GRIFFITH and Sophie GLITSCH had the following children:

Monday, June 30, 1986 at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Mr. Griffith was born
Aug. 20, 1896 in Johnstown, son of the late Reuben and Sophie Glitch Griffith.
He was a self-employed painter, a charter member of Oakland United Methodist
Church, Johnstown, and a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Clyde.

Survivors include his wife Jennie Louise Slagle, four children, Willis R.,
Armagh, Donald L., Johnstown, Arlena Kurtz, Bethesda, Md., and Vernon R.,
Dallas, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in
death by an infant son and daughter, and several brothers and
sisters...interment in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.

MARRIAGE: In another obit it states that he and his wife as of 1986 had been
married 67 years. (Indiana Gazette)

MARRIAGE: Anniversary Announcement states they will celebrate their 63rd
wedding anniversary on Jan. 22, 1983.
