in East Caln Twp., Chester, PA. Martha member of Bradford Monthly Meeting (Quaker).

James MENDENHALL on 31 Jan 1739/40 in Bradford M.M., Chester, PA.
James MENDENHALL was born on 26 Nov 1718 in "of" E. Caln,
Chester, PA. He died in 1788 in , Wilkes co., GA. UPDATE: 1994-03-31
Quaker records for Goshen M.M. indicate James married his second wife there and
removed to New Garden, N.C. 1762
According to Ancestors of American Presidents by Gary Boyd Roberts, NEHGS,
James was the son of Aaron Mendenhall and Rose Pierson. (Aaron was born
9-20-1690, E. Caln, Chester, PA, died 4-30-1765. Married 1715. Rose Pierson was
born in 1693 and died in 1771, the daughter of Thomas Pierson, died 1722, from
Bristol, England to New Castle County, Delaware and East Caln, PA, and Rose
Dixon. Aaron Mendenhall was the son of John Mendenhall and Elizabeth Maris who
married in 1685.) James had a sister, Lydia Mendenhall, who married her 2nd
cousin, Joshua Mendenhall in 1755. Joshua was born 11-11-1727/8 in East Caln,
PA, died 2-5-1816, son of Benjamin Mendenhall, Jr., born 3-5-1691 in North
Carolina, died 5-13-1743, married 3-9-1717, Lydia Roberts, born about 1694 in
Wales, daughter of Owen and Mary Roberts. Benjamin, Jr. was the son of Benjamin
Mendenhall, 1659-1758 (brother to John Mendenhall above) of Delaware county,
PA
and Ann Pennel, born 1667, died May 1709, married 1689.
According to The Newlin Family, Ancestors and Descendants of John and Mary Pyle
Newlin by Algie Newlin, 1965, Benjamin, John and Mary Mendenhall were 3 of
eight children of Thomas and Joan mendenhall of Parish Ramesbury, Wiltshire,
England. Her fther was Francis Mendenhall who died in 1673. Also see: Mendenall
