was the second of five children of Henry Jacoby, Sr. and Ruby Brown. When he
was seven years old his father died suddenly, at the age of 42. His mother
moved the family "into town" Greely, Colorado where Hank attended elementary
and high school, graduating in 1960. Ruby Brown Jacoby remarried in May of 1953
to George Henry Kuxhausen and they had one son, Randy. Hank's other sisters and
brother are: Mary Martha Jacoby, b. 2 Aug 1940; Eileen Ruth Jacoby, b. 24 Feb
1945; Diane Lou Jacoby, b. 23 May 1947; Dale Arthur Jacoby, b. 28 Jan 1949.
Randall Stephan Kuxhausen was born 10 Jul 1954.

After graduating from Greely High School, Hank joined the Navy on 19 Mar 1961
and was sent to Boot Camp at Naval Training Center, San Diego, California.
After graduating from Boot Camp he attended A-school at the Naval Training
Center and was assigned to his first ship, U.S.S. Excel (MSO438), a minesweeper
homeported in Long Beach, Calif. While aboard the Excel, Hank made his first
cruise to the western Pacific including Hawaii, Midway, Hong Kong, Japan,
Taiwan, Okinawa, Philippines and back to the U.S. and Seattle to attend the
World's Fair and then to British Columbia.

In 1964, Hank was reassigned to the U.S.S. Walke (DD723), a destroyer. In 1965
he was stationed on the island of Guam aboard the U.S.S. Proteus (AS19), a
submarine tender. After a year and half on Guam, he was sent to New Orleans as
part of the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. Sphinx (ARL24), a light repair
ship. He sailed aboard the Sphinx through the Panama Canal in 1968 to San Diego
and then on to Vietnam, where he was attached to the Mobile Riverine Force in
the Mekong Delta. After a year "in country" Hank was transferred in Jan. 1969
to the U.S.S. Koka (ATA185), a sea-going tug operating out of San Diego. While
on board the Koka, he was selected for the Navy Warrant Officer Program, 1969.
He took time out to get married on 11 Dec 1969 at the San Diego Naval Station
Chapel and was commissioned in June 1970. In 1971, Hank was sent for 10 weeks
of training at the Damage Control Assistant school at Treasure Island, Calif.
and then was assigned to the U.S.S. Iwo Jima (LPH2), a helicopter landing ship.
After returning from a Westpac cruise to Japan, Okinawa, Hong Kong, and the
Philippines, the Iwo was rehomeported to the East Coast, Norfolk Naval Station,
and Hank had his second experience sailing through the Panama Canal, this time
from West to East. He then sailed aboard the Iwo to the Mediterranean and
visited Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, and Greece before returning to the U.S.
and being transferred back to San Diego aboard the U.S.S. Cleveland (LPD7), a
landing platform dock, a ship designed to land helicopters and launch and
recover landing craft. On board the Cleveland, 1973, Hank had his first visit to
Australia, crossing the Equator in the process and undergoing the time-honored
initiation into the "Realm of the Shellback." From Australia, they visited the
usual western Pacific ports as well as stopping in Korea. In June of 1975 he
finally got to stay ashore for a couple of years, being assigned to DATC
(Development and Training Center, Naval Station San Diego) where he was in
charge of several of the ship repair shops. After 18 months there, he was
assigned to the Recruit Training Command at the Naval Training Center, San
Diego as the Receiving and Outfitting Officer and Recruit Company Commander. He
spent three years at RTC/NTC and in June of 1980 was transferred to the
U.S.S. Dixie (AD14), a destroyer repair ship. During the time spent at DATC and
RTC, Hank also managed to complete his college education, attending classes
nights and weekends.

On board the Dixie, Hank made another trip to the western Pacific including the
Indian Ocean and Diego Garcia, again crossing the equator where this time he
got to be the initiator. The ship called at Somolia, Pakistan, Marutius, and
another visit to Australia. On the way home, Hank became a "Golden Shellback"
when he crossed the Equator and the International Dateline simultaneously. In
July of 1982, he took part in the decommissioning of the Dixie and was assigned
to the U.S.S. Prairie (AD15), a sister ship to Dixie, in Long Beach, Calif. The
Prairie made another Westpac deployment again to the Indian Ocean and Diego
Garcia and Oman in the Persian Gulf. On the way back to the U.S. the ship
called at Hobart, Tasmania. During this cruise, Hank had the opportunity to
visit mainland China in 1984. In September of 1984, Hank was transferred to the
Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, South Carolina, on board the U.S.S.
Alamagordo (ARDM2), a submarine floating drydock, where he was the Dock Master
in charge of docking nuclear submarines in for repairs.

In April of 1987, Hank retired from the Navy after 26 years and 6 days. He was
honored with the Navy Commendation medal at his retirement ceremony held
on board Alamagordo.

He accepted a position with the Marine Construction Division of Bethlehem Steel
in Baltimore, Maryland in 1987, moving over to an engineering supervisory
position with General Motors Corporation in April 1989. In late 1991, he was
transferred to a similar position with General Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sara Leslie GRIFFITH and Henry William JACOBY had the following children:
